Disco Concrete: A Sonic Intervention

(Awaiting Translation)

The 20th Century revolution in sound and music was not televised, but rather taped, sampled, manipulated, and invented anew; eschewing old traditions in a search for modern sonic utopias.

Some invented new recording/electronic technologies, others responded to noise, creating, and exploring modern means of expression, sharing a restlessness in this ongoing noise-music revolution that began in the early 20th Century, and continues to be relevant.

In response, and for one night only, we will absorb, listen, and create a live sonic performance; a homage to Futurism, Russian Constructivism, Bauhaus; and the maverick thinkers and creators such as Maurice Martenot, Leon Theremin, John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Cornelius Cardew, Luciano Berio, Edgard Varese, Yannis Xenakis, Milton Babbitt, La Monte Young, Kraftwerk, Robert Moog, Don Buchla, Brian Eno, John Zorn.... In the old Munitions Factory, Dumballs Road, on May 12th, composer John Rea and sound designer Simon Jones will participate in a sonic performance, manipulating sound capturing, and sound generating technology, past and present.

An installation created by John Rea will then occupy the space for the remainder of the Festival.
